Adapt or get stuck in a rut: ways to widen your prospect
You are never too old to learn something new or try something new. I have met some proactive women who learnt a new skill or hobby during their maternity leave or any opportunity they find. At present, learning and acquiring new skills is a little simpler with technology. This allows you to learn from home. In the last 8 months, my husband and I did some training together, we see the value in learning new things and acquiring new skills. We see these as tools to help us live our dream life.
Invest in yourself– We believe that the greatest investment you can make is in yourself. You acquire skills that you can generate an income with, to express your creativity or to allow more flexibility. I take pride in my African heritage, most of us are hustlers (especially Nigerians), we generally don’t go abroad to claim benefits, oh no, we come to make money and create a better life for ourselves and our families. Sometimes it might take working two or three jobs. Guys, I worked throughout my college and university years, I am tired of always working hard, it is time to start working smart as well.
The internet is a tool– I wrote a blog post on how to become a stay at home mum. That post was to help mums and dads who want to do that. And why not? However, there might be some mums or dads on maternity or paternity leave or a stay at home parent or have been made redundant and want to work or train while they are at home. I am all for it. Thanks to the internet and social media, the whole world is open to us and we have more options than we used to.
You can study from home, you can work from home. There are so many jobs mum/dad can do from home, for example, you can be a child minder, a life coach, a mentor, a youtuber, a blogger, a web designer, an eBay seller, amazon seller, tutor, baby sitter, baker, cook, hair dresser, make-up artist and so many more. I have done some of these things mentioned. I am sure that you can think of so many more. You might be looking to make a career change or looking for a part time job that requires qualification, why not take a look at some of the courses being offered by JCM Training Centre.
Always aim for more flexibility– these are ideas to help you gain new skill set for flexibility around your lifestyle, this is important, especially if you have children. You might say to me, I need training for that and I don’t have the time. Perhaps you might have to research and see if you can learn and study from home (distance learning). Although I attained a CACHE childcare qualification in college many years ago, JCM Training Centre are offering some online courses and package deals, check it out and see if there is something that interests you.
I am all for finding creative ways to for women and men to invest in themselves to widen their prospects and have more options. Let me know if becoming a parent had an impact in your career, please leave a comment and tell me if you had to do something different to meet your family/childcare need. I know I had to.
